Mutanza scempio 10

Also known as:

Toe-and-heel, turning

Title translation:
Compasso's tenth single-tempo galliard variation
Dance Type:
Number of dancers:
1
Choreography:

Start with the left foot a little behind in the right,

  1. hop on the right foot, touching the left toes to the ground next to the right foot, turning to the left somewhat as you do so
  2. (pause)
  3. hop on the right foot, touching the left heel to the ground, turning further to the left
  4. hop on the right foot, end by lowering the left foot to the ground next to the right, completing the turn to the left
  5. cadenza - jump
  6. land on both feet, right foot a little behind left

Reverse

  1. hop on the left foot, touching the right toes to the ground next to the left foot, turning somewhat to the right
  2. (pause)
  3. hop on the left foot, touching the right heel to the ground, turning further to the right
  4. hop on the left foot, end by lowering the right foot to the ground next to the left, completing the turn to the right
  5. cadenza - jump
  6. land on both feet, left foot a little behind right

Make a complete turn to the left or the right with each tempo (easier with the double toe-and-heel, below). Alternatively - take several tempi to complete the turn.

VARIANTS

This works well in several different rhythms. For example:

Move the pause: alter the rhythm as you like

Twice on one side:

  1. hop on the right foot, touching the left toes to the ground next to the right foot, turning to left
  2. hop on the right foot, touching the left heel to the ground, turning to left
  3. hop on the right foot, touching the left toes to the ground next to the right foot, turning to left
  4. hop on the right foot, touching the left heel to the ground, completing the turn to the left
  5. cadenza - jump
  6. land on both feet, right foot a little behind left
Discussion:

As usual, Compasso doesn't specify which way you turn, or how far.
