It is not enough for a gentleman to know the cadenze, but he must also know the mystery of the scambiate. And indeed know that in this third note, that of the scambiate (exchanging) of the feet, one stands in passo with the left foot in front, one [foot] four inches away from another; one thrusts the right, where the left foot it, and that [left] foot where the right is separate one from the other two inches, placing always both the feet on the ground, and the said scambiate is done in three ways: in a straight line, stationary (fermate), and also turning oneself per fianco, the same is also done turning around.
